CASTAGNO ORGANIC PASTA

"An excellent wholemeal pasta with a lovely firm texture, a customer favourite" David Latto, chef at The Gleaners Cafe E17.

The story of Castagno pasta is one of passion and enthusiasm for quality products. In the early 1900s Pietro Castagno started work at his mill. The mill is now located in the splendid natural setting of Val Sangone, in Piedmont, a region in northwest Italy. Piedmont sits at the foot of the Alps and borders France and Switzerland.

This is a family business that began over a hundred years ago and now produces more than fifty four different types of pasta using quality raw materials. Everything from the storage of raw materials and finished products to the milling, extrusion, flaking, packaging and labelling is done in a 17000 square metre plant near Turin.

In the 1970s advances in technology allowed the expansion of mass production and the use of more chemicals. Bruno Castagno and his wife Maria decided to concentrate all their efforts in the creation of organic products, making them one of the first Italian companies with a 100% focus on organic products. The three children Bruna, Franca and Pietro joined the company.

The Castagno family are passionate about the protection of the environment and seventy per cent of the electricity used is produced by using hydro-electric power.

In order to retain all the nutrients the Castagno pasta is slow dried at low temperatures. The following are examples of some of the different types of pasta produced by the Castagno family.
